Retiring in Panama

Requirements:
  • A formal request issued by a Panamanian Lawyer addressed to the Director General, Immigration Department.
  • A Health certificate issued by a Panamanian Doctor issued within the 3 months previous to the date of presentation.
  • A Federal Police Record from where you currently reside, previously authenticated.
  • Proof of pension issued by the Government or private sector, with documents that certify that you receive a minimum income of $500 a month and $100 each for any dependents. In case of a retiree by private sector, you request a certify document and payment receipt.
  • A letter taking responsibility of his/her dependents (If there is any).
  • Certified copy of your valid passport.
  • Marriage Certificate and Birth Certificate previously authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs
  • Four Color passport photographs (men should wear a tie).

Panama Pensioned Tourist Program (Pensionado)

Law No. 9 of June 24, 1987

 

This is a residency program designed for retirees living on pension programs. This program grants alien the right to reside in Panama indefinitely. The retiree residence status requires that applicant demonstrates an income on pension of only US$500.00 per month and $100.00 for each dependent. This program covers applicant, spouse and children under the age of 18.

 

The qualification requirements for the Pensionado Visa Program are:

• You must apply in Panama

• You must be at least 18 years old

• Your application must be processed by a Panamanian attorney

• Power of attorney

• Registration Form. To obtain this form applicant must go in person to the Immigration Office

• Letter from a private company or public entity stating his condition of pensioner and amount received per month in original and notarized. You must have a verifiable minimum monthly income of $500 from a government program or private corporation. This could be Social Security or another government retirement fund, such as military, state retirement, police pension, etc., or retirement from a private corporation. For your spouse or minor children, your minimum income must be increased by $100 per month per dependent

• Proof of the amount received duly authenticated by apostille seal or Panamanian Consulate

• Health certificate issued by Panamanian Doctor

• Certificate of good conduct issued by the authorities at the place of residence during the last five years duly authenticated by the Panamanian Consulate or by Apostille

• Four photographs

• Photocopy of passport, all pages including cover, notarized and authenticated by Panamanian Consulate

• Sworn statement about personal background. This is done in Panama through a lawyer.

• Original passport

• You need to physically be in Panama when the visa is issued

 

If married and applicant wants to include his family, should also provide:

• Power of Attorney

• Marriage certificate duly authenticated by apostille seal or Panamanian Consulate

• Certificate of good conduct of wife and children over 18 years old during the last five years, notarized and duly authenticated.

• Birth certificate of children duly authenticated by Panamanian Consulate.

• Photocopy of passport.

• 4 photographs of each dependent.

• Health certificate issued by a Panamanian doctor

• Sworn statement about personal background done through a lawyer.

• Responsibility Letter duly notarized and authenticated by Panamanian Consulate

Note:

All documentation that needs authentication and will be registered in Panama must be translated to Spanish, by an Authorized Translator in Canada.

All official documents must be previously notarized by your Lawyer or an Public Notary in Canada and then, by the Department of Foreign Affairs here in Ottawa. Once this is done, you must bring these documents for their authentication at the Panamanian Embassy in Ottawa. This process can take between three to four (3-4) business days.

There is a fee of US$30.oo for each document to be authenticated at this Embassy. Please make a money order payable to "Consular Section, Embassy of Panama".

Please send a self-addressed envelope with postage included. If you use a courier, please send a filled bill of landing with your account number.

Pd: Please be advice, that if you are not in Ottawa, we have three Consulates in Canada: Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. The price, time and process could change in each Consulate .
