As of January 1, 2011 Canadian passport holders DO NOT need a visa to enter Panama and Tourist Cards no longer exist. Upon arrival to Panama, you will be allowed to remain in the country for 6 months. Your passport MUST be valid for at least 3 months when traveling to Panama.
Canadian Diplomatic passport holders and Special passport holders no longer need visas to enter Panama.
Canadian permanent resident card holders do NOT need a visa to go to Panama.

IMPORTANT NOTICE -- Special Case for the AUTHORIZED VISA
As of July 21, 2009 Executive Decree No. 248 has come into effect. This new law states that:
"Holders of a passport that is valid for at least 6 months and has a valid visa to one or more of the following countries: United States of America, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom or ANY of the member countries of the European Union, which has been used at least once to enter that country, can enter the National territory by obtaining a Stamped Visa or equivalent REGARDLESS of their nationality"

Extending your visa:
This visa is valid for 30 days; if you want to stay longer you can extend it for 60 more days while you are in Panama.
Go to the Migracion offices on Avenida Cuba at Calle 29 Este (there are also offices in David, Chitre, Changuinola and Santiago).
You will need your passport, $10, a photocopy of your passport page containing your personal information and the page showing the stamp of your most recent entry into Panamá, return ticket and a letter requesting the extension (which you can write on the spot.)
In Panama City, when you arrive at Immigration, pull a number and when attended, ask for a "prorroga de turista" which is the form you have to fill out.
There is nearly always a wait of at least half an hour to be attended and the whole process often takes two hours.

Requirements for Authorized Visa:
Request authorized visa with sufficient time before traveling to Panama, at least forty days in advance
Fill in the Application Form, depending on the purpose of your trip.
Present valid Original Passport. Copy of the first page with general information is required
Present an updated Bank/Financial Statement as proof of your financial situation
Show letter/affidavit of person who will sponsor/represent you while in Panama. This letter could be sent directly to the Immigration Department (Panama City) by the person or company responsible for you in Panama.
Original and copy of your itinerary.
Two (2) Photographs (Color, passport size)
Copy of identification card from country of birth/residence.
